Lorenox
Lorenox is a proprietary ingredient from the French fragrance house Mane, described as a woody, ambery accord with leathery and aromatic facets. It is used as a base-note material to give fragrances a dry, textured, suede-like warmth, and appears on the note lists of a number of niche and designer perfumes.
What does Lorenox smell like?
Lorenox reads as dry amber and wood with a soft leather edge. Where a clean ambery molecule like ambroxan feels smooth, bright and mineral, Lorenox is usually described as darker, drier and more textured, closer to worn suede or warm tanned skin. Aromatic, slightly herbal touches keep it from feeling heavy. It is not an ambergris substitute in the strict sense, although some brands list it alongside ambergris-type notes because it shares that warm, radiant character.
Where Lorenox comes from
Lorenox is made by Mane, the family-owned company based near Grasse in the south of France. It is a captive material, reserved for use by Mane's perfumers, and Mane has not publicly disclosed its composition, so it is unclear whether it is a single molecule or a multi-ingredient base; public sources mostly refer to it as an accord.
- Fragrance family: Woody ambery / leather

Lorenox in perfume history
Lorenox is a recent material with little documented history beyond its use in finished fragrances. One of its best-known appearances is in Etat Libre d'Orange Remarkable People (2015), created by perfumer Cécile Matton, where it gives a woody drydown with a light amber and leather twist. It belongs to a wider trend of fragrance houses developing signature woody-amber materials that give their perfumers a distinctive base.
Lorenox in modern perfumery
Mane's perfumers use Lorenox to add structure and a lived-in warmth to woody ambers, leathers and chypre-style bases. Because it is exclusive to one supplier, it tends to appear in clusters of fragrances made by Mane perfumers, including niche brands that like to list unusual materials by name.
How Lorenox wears and what it pairs with
As a base note, Lorenox emerges in the drydown and lasts for hours. It pairs well with leather accords, suede, iris, patchouli, vetiver, cedar, labdanum, vanilla and pepper.
